On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Tim W. Schmelyun, 63, of Hanover, PA, passed away doing what he loved most - helping his son. And if you knew Tim, you know that wasn't just a moment - that was a lifestyle. Born in Baltimore, MD, Tim was the son of Shirley (Flanagan) Schmelyun and the late Richard Schmelyun, Sr. He attended Westminster High School before launching into a career in construction - though he'd be the first to tell you, "I'm a Motocross racer who does roofing on the side." Tim earned 27 number-one championship plates in motocross racing and carried himself in everyday life like the champion he was. He would say "You show me a 'good' loser and I'll show you a loser." He loved winning with a passion - but he hated losing even more.
Tim was known for being the life of the party, the favorite uncle, and the undisputed MVP of any pool table he stood next to. He was a trash-talker and a quiet assassin at the same time - with an awkward shot so unique, the local league says the shadow of his stance will haunt them for years to come.
After retiring from roofing, he helped his brother, Rick, with construction work and his good friend, Todd Quick, with HVAC work. But what truly defined Tim was his unmatched love and loyalty to his son, Broc. He would do anything - lockboxes, lawn mowing, real estate signs, errands, house repairs - and he did it all with pride, never missing a chance to say how proud he was of the man his son became. Somewhere in the world, someone just earned the title of most loved son - but only because Tim passed. There was no deeper, more devoted love than the one he gave to Broc.
Tim is survived by one son, Broc Schmelyun; his Mother, Shirley Schmelyun; four siblings, Donna Southard and husband Matt, Richard Schmelyun, Jr. and wife Rhonda, Sherri Rose, and Lee Schmelyun and wife Kathy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Tim's Life will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1406, 105 Park St., Hanover, PA 17331 - where he had many great nights (and several drink limits).
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In Tim's honor, be a sore loser. And if you're above ground today - remember: it's a good day.
In lieu of flowers donations in Tim's memory are recommended to Doublin Gap Motocross ATTN: Tim Schmelyun 1146 South Pitt St, Carlisle, PA 17013.
