Sidney S. Ehrhart, one week before his 97th birthday passed away on April 11, 2026 at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, PA. He was the husband of the beloved Sally Warehime Yelland Ehrhart, who passed away on February 24, 2022, and of the beloved Frieda Gaffney Ehrhart, who passed away on May 18, 2009, and to whom he was married for 58 years.
Born in Leechburg, PA on April 18, 1929, Mr. Ehrhart was the son of the late Rev. Dr. Kenneth S. Ehrhart and Mary Barbehenn Ehrhart. He is survived by his brother David and wife Barbara, their son Michael, wife Diane and their children Amanda, Joshua, and Dustin, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Ann Yelland Adornatto, husband Michael, and their daughters Julia, Kayla, and Dominique; Steven Yelland, wife Amy, and their son Bode and daughter Erin. He was preceded in death by brothers Dr. Kenneth Ehrhart, Rev. Richard Ehrhart,Rev. Carl Ehrhart and nephews Kenneth Ehrhart, Jr. and Scott Hull.
Sid graduated from Codorus Township High School, Glenville, PA in 1946 and from Gettysburg College in 1950. While in college he was a 4-year member of the Gettysburg College a Capella Choir and the Phi Sigma Kappa social fraternity.
After teaching for one year at Codorus Township High School, he served a 4-year enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, after which he returned to the Southern York County School District to resume his career, first as a history teacher and then as Guidance Counselor. He earned the required master's degree in counseling and guidance from Temple University in Philadelphia. He retired in 1985 after counseling at Susquehannock High School and the Southern Middle School, Glen Rock, PA.
Having grown up as a member of the Lutheran congregation at St. Jacob's (Stone) Union Church, Glenville, PA, he was now a member of St.Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the Hanover Country Club.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 31 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA at 11 am, Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Visitation with the family will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. At the convenience of the family, a graveside service will be held at the Stone Church Cemetery on Stone Church Road, Glenville, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Ehrhart's name may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 31 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA 17331, Homewood at Plum Creek Benevolent Fund, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA 17331, SYCSD (Southern York County School District) Scholarship Fund, Box 128, Glen Rock, PA 17327, VNA Hospice of Hanover, 440 Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331 or to any worthy charity of your choice.
