Robert R. McCune Columbia Robert R. McCune, 88, formerly of Red Lion, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. He was the husband of the late Jeanne M. (Leber) McCune who died February 21, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 121 West Broadway, Red Lion with his pastor the Rev. Ron Doverspike, officiating, assisted by Rev. Lyle Bundy. A visitation will be held from 10:00 -11:00 AM Tuesday at the church. A private entombment will be held in Red Lion Cemetery Mausoleum. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. McCune was born on March 5, 1925 in Columbia, a son of the late Chester B. and Esther A. (Howard) McCune. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII from 1943-1947 serving in the South Pacific. He graduated from the Eckles College of Mortuary Science in 1948 where he received a degree as a Funeral Director. Following graduation he served his apprenticeship at the Gundle Funeral Home, Conestoga, and was employed for 8 years. He then was employed at the Burg Funeral Home, Inc., in Red Lion for 32 years. Then in 1987 he was employed at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., retiring in 2002. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and Sunday school in Red Lion where he served on and was a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee. He was also a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Robert leaves behind a daughter, Lois M. Ednie and her husband Douglas of Hershey; two sons, Thomas R. McCune and his wife Debra of York, and David B. McCune and his wife Teresa of Felton; seven Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren; Three brothers Clyde P. McCune, Richard H. McCune and Harold C. McCune all of Columbia, PA. The family requests no flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church Trust Fund, 121 West Broadway, Red Lion, PA 17356, St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512-9715, or to the Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
