On Friday, July 16, 2021, Means Johnston, III, 66, of York, succumbed to a brave battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born on October 18, 1954, in Washington, DC, to the late Hope (Larken) and Means Johnston, Jr. He graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in 1973, then took classes from American University, University of Mississippi, and the University of Maryland. During his working career, he worked in the draftsman, courier, and the hospitality fields. Means was a nature lover at heart. He also enjoyed learning about any historical events, studying art and music. No pun intended, but there was not a mean bone in his body. He was a very caring, heartfelt man, and there wasn't a thing he wouldn't do. Over 40 years ago, Means chose to convert to Judaism, and was very passionate about the transition and is a participating congregant of Temple Beth Israel in York. He is survived by his two sons, Evan Michael and Holden Joseph Johnston; former wife and best friend, Blossom Zell; sister, Hope Larken Brown and husband William; four nieces and nephews, Hope, Mary, Cecil and Pierce; and his feline companions, Prince, Charming, Minnie, and the late Si, Am, and Tinkerbell. A graveside service will be on Monday, July 19 at 11am at South Hill Hebrew Cemetery, 2101 Old Baltimore Pike, York. Rabbi Peter Kessler will officiate. An online guestbook is available at www.geiple.com.
