Mary Callahan, 93, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Concordia at SpiriTrust Sprenkle Drive, in York. She was born on February 16, 1933, in Cumberland, MD, to the late John T. and Zelda (Broadstock) Burns.
Mary was happily married to Walter A. Callahan for an incredible 65 years. Together, they spent 42 of those years living in Baltimore, MD, raising a loving family and creating countless cherished memories. As a dedicated homemaker, Mary took great pride in her role as a wife and mother. Her warm heart and nurturing spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband, Walter; her two children, Carolyn Jaffa (and husband Sam) and Greg Callahan (and wife Sheila); seven grandchildren, Daniel, Ashley, Jill, Kevin, Kortney, David, and Nicole; ten great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her son John D. Callahan, her brother James Burns, and her sister Shirley Cadigan.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, October 7, at 10:00am, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the church at the address mentioned above. For those who would like to share their memories and condolences, an online condolence page will be available.
Mary's warmth and love will always be remembered.
