Kathy A. Shearer York Kathy A. (Grim) Shearer, 55, of York New Salem, died Thursday June 6, 2013 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Marvin D. Shearer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, 100 East George Street, York New Salem, with her pastor the Rev. Teresa A. Hughes officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob’s Union Cemetery. A viewing will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday evening at the church and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at the church. Kathy was born on May 17, 1958 in York, a daughter of the late Ellard C. and Marion E. (Mason) Lentz. She was a faithful member of St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of bible study group, a supporter of their food bank, and Habitat for Humanity. She also was faithful with visiting shut-ins within her church and the surrounding community. She had been a volunteer teacher for the York County Literacy Council. Kathy loved to read and write poems, she was an avid animal lover especially dogs, and was known for her fudge. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Jessica S. McClary and her husband Alan, a son, Travis Shearer, both of York New Salem; a step-daughter, Stacy L. Sprigle and her husband Chris of York; 4 grandchildren, Greyson, Rilynn, Josephine, and Evelyn; two brothers, Charles Mason and his wife Kim of Spring Grove, and Ellard Lentz, Jr. and his companion Linda Inkrote of Manchester. She is also survived by her mother-in-law and good friend, Iva Shearer of Seven Valleys. She is preceded in death by her husband and her sister April P. Amspacher. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, Helping Hands Fund, P.O. Box 111, 100 East George Street, York New Salem 17371.
