John Lynn

John E. "Jack" Lynn, 86, of New Freedom, PA, died Saturday, May 3, 2025. He was a man of great energy. He loved dogs, enjoyed gardening, and his daily walks on the NCR Rail Trail. He liked camping, kayaking and hiking. His favorite climbs were on Mt. Washington, NH.

Jack enjoyed building. As a teenager, he and his father raised a family beach house on Mallard Island, NJ. He built a garage and outbuildings and did remodeling on his home.

He was a draftee by the US Army and served in the Vietnam War. Later he began his 30 year career with the Army and the US Department of Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense, (OSD).

Jack received a BA Degree in Accounting from Villanova University, a MSA Degree from Central Michigan University, and had degrees in financial Management from Syracuse University, Organizational Communication from Old Dominion University, and the Senior Program Managers course at Defense Systems Management College (DSMC).

He taught classes at DSMC and consulted for OSD, and was a speaker in program management, systems acquisitions, policies and procedures of both government and industry regulations.

He was financial manager for the Ovda Air Base in Israel, developed programs for the US Marine Corps and for General Dynamics, the 77 Carrier Group, and the B2 Bomber Program.

Jack is survived by his "Sweetheart" of 30 years, Ellen Chisholm; his sons, David Lynn, of Wesley Chapel, FL and John Jeffrey Lynn and wife Janae and grandson, Darren Lynn, of Reading, PA; and his ex-wife, Judith, of Reading, PA. He is also survived by Andrew Bales, of Brandon, FL, Sarah Bales Rosanbalm, of Kuna, ID, Colin Chisholm of Austin, TX and Mark Chisholm of Silver Spring, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00pm at St. John the Baptist HISTORIC Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
