John Leon Large, 80, of Glen Rock, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. John was born in Bristol, TN on July 8, 1944 to the late Lawrence Huston and Nina Gladys (Miller) Large. He is survived by his wife Barbara (Bortner) Large, daughter Michelle Marie Purdy of Elkins, Wva, grandchildren Emery Ann and Lena Marie Purdy, sisters Norma Nunn of Turlock, Ca and Estelle Hulse of Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Marvin Large, Deloris Walters, Dale Large, Kanie Large, and Fred Large. John served in the U.S. Army from May 1969 to May 1971 reaching the rank of Spec 4 (Special 4th Class). He went to Fort Bragg, NC for basic training and Fort Sill in Lawton, Ok for advanced training. He served in the 3rd and 76thArtillery Division in Germany for 4 months than to Vietnam from July 1970 to May 1971 stationed at Ben Het. After returning home John worked for Black & Decker and then opened his own garage, Glen Rock 66 at 50 Main St., later purchasing his own building at 101 Manchester St.. John was a continuous member for 52 years at American Legion Post 403, Glen Rock. He was a life member of VFW Post 7012 in New Freedom, Moose Chapter 3000 in Westminster, MD, DAV Chapter #11 Mid Valley, and Save the Mountaguard People (STMP) in NC.

A visitation will be held at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, PA 17327 on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 10 AM to 11 AM at which time a service will be held. Anyone wishing to make a donation in John's memory may do so to the Lebanon VA Medical Center, 4th Floor Hospice Unit, 1700 S. Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042.
