Ernest R. Weiss (102) of Sarasota, FL, formerly of York, PA, passed away on January 31, 2015. Husband of Harlene R. Weiss and Lottie A. Weiss (d. 1979). Father to David and Ronald, stepfather to Lawrence and Andrew Markowitz. Grandfather to Sean, Liz, Josh, Billy and Ryan. Brother to the late Lilly Knoetig. Born in Vienna, Austria, Ernie lived a full and long life from attending the 1936 Olympics in Berlin to serving in the US Navy during WW II. He relocated to York as a manager with Cole Steel and then with McCrory Stores. A leader in establishing and building educational and social services in York County for those afflicted with Down’s syndrome. He received many awards for his contributions and was a member of Ohev Sholom Synagogue. Services will be at Temple Beth Israel on Wednesday at 1 pm. Contributions to The Arc of York County, 497 Hill Street or Jewish Family Services of York, 2000 Hollywood Drive. Condolences may be shared at geiple.com
