Donald Jones

May 10, 1939 — January 19, 2026

Donald Edward Jones passed peacefully in his sleep at Hanover Hospital on January 19, 2026.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Catherine Jones. Donald was born in Boston, Massachusetts May 10, 1939. Parents were the late Carl and Gloria Ann Jones.

He obtained his GED in lieu of a high school graduation and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958 where he met his wife, Nancy and started a family on the base at Camp Lejeune, NC with the delivery of their first born, Troy.

Married in 1960 to Nancy, they lived in the same home in Brodbecks, PA for over 55 of those years and raised two additional children, Kim and Stacey.

While in the Marine Corps, Don served briefly in The Bay of Pigs in Cuba. It is in the Marine Corps that he developed skills as an expert pistol marksman. He continued this as a hobby, winning many awards as a member of the York/Adams Pistol Team and served as president for many years.  Don also enjoyed ocean fishing on their boat, and hunting.

After retiring from his own sign lettering business in Hanover, Don continued to use his artisan talent turning wood into beautiful vessels and vases and continued to turn wood well into his 80's.

He is survived by his children: Troy Jones from Glenville, PA, Kim (Jones) Shue and husband Steve from Spring Grove, PA and Stacey (Jones) Marendt and husband Brian of Erie, PA, and grandchildren: Brandon Jones, Olivia (Jones) Cecchini and wife Sarah, Adam Marendt and Ella Marendt.  He is predeceased by his parents and sister Gloria (Jones) Doan.
