Brian L. Baer, 71 of Glenville, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, at York Hospital surrounded by family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was the loving husband of Ruth A. (Schuman) Baer with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
Brian was born October 31, 1953, to Elvin and Maretta (Thomas) Baer of Freeland, MD. Brian graduated from Hereford High School. He retired from P. H. Glatfelter in Spring Grove after 41 years of service. In addition to working at the paper mill, Brian was a dedicated steward of the land, farming the multigenerational family farm with his father-in-law and his sons. Brian took great pride in raising black angus cattle, goats, rabbits, and various crops. He could often be found supporting his three children at county, regional, and national cattle shows where they competitively showed the families black angus cattle for 17 years. Brian was a John Deere enthusiast, and over the years restored several antique tractors with his sons. He was especially proud of his Massey Harris 333, which was gifted to him one Christmas by his sons and was then restored to new condition by Brian and his sons. Brian also enjoyed attending tractor shows with his sons and grandsons.
He was also involved in his community as a leader in the Glen Rock 4-H community club, a member of the former South Central Cattlemen's Association, a Township Supervisor for Codorus Township, and a member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church. One of his favorite annual activities was playing the role of Santa for coworkers and their families both at the paper mill and at the annual union holiday party.
In addition to his wife, Brian is survived by his two sons, Jason; and Philip and his wife Victoria, all of Glen Rock, PA; one daughter, Beth Kern and her husband Allen of York, PA; three grandsons, Matthew, Elvin, and Walter Baer; his mother, Maretta; and his brother, Glen and his wife Rosa. He was preceded in death by his father, Elvin Baer; and his daughter-in-law, Lynn Baer.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Jacob's Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, PA at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held at the church one hour before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial to follow the service at St. Jacob's Stone Union Cemetery in Glenville, PA.
