John H. Wolfgang, 88, of Senior Commons at Powder Mill, York, who was formerly of Glenville, died Thursday January 27, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Erlean C. (Sweitzer) Wolfgang. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 31, 2011 at St. Jacobs Stone Church, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, with his nieces Rev. Janet W. Ray, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewings will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday at the church. Mr. Wolfgang was born on October 6, 1922 in Codorus Township, a son of the late Lewis and Rachel A. (Utz) Wolfgang. He was a lifelong farmer in the Codorus Township area and retired from Consolidated Freight in York, where he was employed as a Dock Worker for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Jacobs (Stone) United Church of Christ, Glenville and was a 50 plus year member of the Sunday School of the church. He also was a Life Member of the Jefferson Fire Company and member of the National Rifle Association and the York County Dutchmen Hunting Camp in Lycoming County. He is survived by a daughter, Robin R. Seymore of Hanover; five sons, Lamar W. Wolfgang, Laverne J. Wolfgang, Gerald L. Wolfgang all of Glenville, Gary L. Wolfgang of Glen Rock and Dale T. Wolfgang of Hanover,; 10 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, three sisters, Lizzie Zumbrum of Hanover, Lettie Hershey of New Oxford and Emma Kohler of York. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jacobs (Stone) United Church of Christ, 5152 Stone Church Road, Glenville, PA 17329.
