Robert Kaplan, 82, of Delray Beach, FL, who was formerly of York, died Friday January 21, 2011 at the Hospice Care Unit at Pine Crest Rehabilitation Hospital in Delray Beach. He was the husband of Laura (Plotkin) Kaplan, with whom he celebrated a 56th wedding anniversary on June 20, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, PA, with Rabbi Ron Muroff of Chisuk Emuna Congregation, Harrisburg, officiating. Burial will be in South Hill Hebrew Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Mr. Kaplan was born on December 8, 1928 in New York City and was a son of the late Nathan and Rose (Bedell) Kaplan. He was a butcher for most of his life and had been the Proprietor of Kaplans Kosher Meats and Delicatessen in York from 1966 to 1990. He had previously owned kosher butcher shops in Brooklyn, New York and Spring Valley, New York. He had served as a Boy Scout Leader and was a Past Member of Ohev Sholom Congregation, the Jewish War Veterans of York and Bnai Brith. Besides his wife, Mr. Kaplan leaves a daughter, Cynthia Barson and her husband Michael of Richboro, PA and a Son, Neil Kaplan and his wife Fay of New York, NY; five grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Jankowitz of Delray Beach.
