Lillian (Fisher) Newberger, 81 of Lantana, FL, formerly of Boynton Beach, FL and York, PA died Thursday July 1, 2010 at JFK Hospital, Lakewood, FL following a lengthy illness. She was the loving spouse of Sheldon M. Newberger, and they just celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary in June, with a gala weekend with their entire family present.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday July 6, 2010, at Temple Beth Israel, 2090 Hollywood Drive, York with Rabbi Jeffrey Astrachan, officiating. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in South Hill Hebrew Cemetery, York, PA. The Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, PA is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Newberger was born on May 31, 1929 in New York City, NY, a daughter of the late Hyman and Tybie (Vernikoff) Fisher.
She had owned and operated a Travel Agency in York, PA. Mrs. Newberger was also an Elementary School Teacher, and a Realtor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Brooklyn College of NY.
She was active member of the Ohev Sholom Congregation, of York, Hadassah, and JCC of York. Mrs. Newberger was also an avid skier, tennis player and golfer. Lillian and her husband Sheldon enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world.
She will be remembered for being a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
Besides her husband Sheldon she also leaves two sons, Stuart Newberger, and his spouse Marcy, of McLean VA, and Jonathan Newberger, of York, five grandchildren: Elana, Rebecca, Jacob, Caroline, and Marissa and a brother Martin Fisher, of Deerfield Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by a son Gary Newberger.
