Robert Reider Merrick

Robert Reider “Mike” Merrick, 91, of York, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Country Meadows of York. He was the husband of Mary E. (Seitz) Merrick, with whom he celebrated a 59th wedding anniversary on September 1, 2009.
       Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc. 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, with Rev. Beth Holtz of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Glen Rock, officiating.  Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Glen Rock.  There will be no viewing.
       Mr. Merrick was born on August 6, 1918 in the Denton, Maryland, a son of the late Robert Leslie and Anna (Reider) Merrick.
       He graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1935 and proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy, during World War II.
       He was employed by the Federal Government for over 32 years, retiring from the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot in 1978 and had worked at the Naval Ordinance Plant in York.
        He was a member of the Glen Rock Fireman’s Relief Association, the York N.O.P. Alumni Association and was a former member of the Austin L. Grove America Legion Post #403.
        Besides his wife he leaves a son, Steven M. Merrick and his wife Cindy of York, two granddaughters, Jennifer Merrick Stump of York and Anne Merrick of West Chester, three nephews and a sister in law, Helen Merrick of York.  He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Krebs and a brother James Merrick.
